The unusually large and well-equipped Upper east Side kitchen is full of professional catering equipment, giving a clue to the profession of the mother who is cooking in the center of the painting; the father is reading the sports section of New York Newsday, giving a clue to his profession, and interests and activities of the rest of the close-knit family are suggested by the objects surrounding them.
